The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), demanded on Tuesday (08) action from the Federal Senate amid the Supreme Federal Court (STF) crisis. Without directly mentioning the impeachment request against Minister Alexandre de Moraes, Tarcísio stated that the chamber has a duty to act and oversee to ensure the functioning of the checks and balances system.

The statement comes a day after the September 7th event on Paulista Avenue in São Paulo, which gathered supporters of Senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL). During the event, right-wing leaders made explicit demands for the removal of Minister Alexandre de Moraes from the STF.

Tarcísio defended that the Senate needs to respond to the institutional crisis. According to him, if the chamber does not act, the checks and balances system will collapse. "The worst ruin is the ruin of omission," the governor stated, demanding that the Senate fulfill its role.

The governor also commented on the decision by the Second Panel of the STF that formed a majority regarding a process related to the case, as mentioned at the end of the article.
