Ireneu Cabral Barreto received with emotion the praise unanimously attributed to him by the Municipal Assembly of Ponta do Sol, during the solemn session commemorating the municipality's 525 years. The former representative of the Republic in the Autonomous Region of Madeira considered this distinction as the recognition of a path he could never have built alone.
Barreto stated he does not feel entitled to the distinction, but rather "indebted" to his family, teachers, collaborators and all the people who contributed to his path over the years.
The recognition comes at a time when the former representative of the Republic recalls 15 years of service, after a long career. The solemn session for the 525th anniversary of the municipality provided the privileged moment for this numerous distinction to the figure of Ireneu Cabral Barreto.
