The Minister of Education publicly admitted that exams may return to counting toward the grades of students in the 4th and 6th years. This statement comes at a time when the government is analyzing possible changes to the basic education assessment system.

According to the minister, this is a possibility being considered, but he stressed that no definitive decisions have been made on the matter. The official stated that the hypothesis may even prove unnecessary after further analysis.

The Ministry of Education is studying this possibility of reintroducing evaluative exams in basic education, in a process that is still in the assessment phase. The question of exams in basic schools has been a debated topic in the Portuguese educational landscape.
