Lionel Messi has reached a preliminary agreement to buy 100% of the shares of CD Eldense, a team from the second division of Spanish football. The Argentine player, 39 years old and retired from the Argentine national team, intends to invest his legacy in football through this acquisition, strengthening his position as a businessman in the Spanish scene months after having acquired UE Cornellà, from the Catalan Third Federation.
Eldense is a recently promoted team to the Spanish second division, based in the city of Elda, located near Catalonia. Messi plans to live in the region when he leaves Inter Miami, in the United States, where he currently plays. The operation may be formalized in the coming days, after the conclusion of the final legal and contractual procedures.
According to the newspaper Marca, Eldense was previously purchased by a group of investors of Colombian origin led by businessman Juan Carlos Trujillo. The club is facing difficulties in the current second division season, having earned only two points in four rounds, which resulted in the dismissal of the coach in recent weeks.
