Informa D&B published a new barometer on the number of new companies operating in the Portuguese market. Through August, 1327 entities filed for insolvency proceedings, representing a 1.3% increase compared to the same period the previous year. This growth in bankruptcies contrasts with the trend of new company creation in the market.
According to the Informa D&B Barometer, the largest increases in insolvency proceedings occurred mainly in the Lisbon region, which recorded the highest number of cases. This geographic concentration suggests that the capital and surrounding area were more affected by the financial difficulties facing companies.
The barometer also indicates a decline in the number of new companies created during this period, suggesting a more challenging economic environment for those looking to start a business. The combination of increasing insolvencies and the reduction of new companies reflects a contraction in the Portuguese business fabric.
