The Spanish government spokesperson, Minister Elma Saiz, stated this Tuesday after the Council of Ministers that "we have nothing to hide" and that "this government does not lie," referring to President Pedro Sánchez's promise to declassify State Security documents related to the migration crisis in Ceuta, known as the Ceuta Papers.
However, the Executive acknowledges that it has data that must remain confidential for security reasons, which means that some important details will not be made public when the documents are revealed.
Some police reports point to Morocco's involvement in the migration crisis, an accusation that the Government does not officially make, which raises doubts about whether the published information will help fully clarify the truth about the management of the crisis.
The transparency promise comes in a context of scrutiny over how the Executive handled the situation in Ceuta, and the publication of the documents may not answer all questions about the Spanish government's actions during that period.
