Vasco Rosendo, Economy editor at CNN Portugal, revealed that Luís Montenegro kept two political aces up his sleeve that he used during the motion of censure against the Government. These aces consisted of the announcement of a pension bonus and an IRS reduction.
According to the editor, the Executive deliberately postponed these announcements to coincide with the date of the motion of censure, in order to partially nullify the political debate surrounding these measures.
The strategy aimed to divert the opposition's attention and weaken the arguments presented against the Government during the voting of the motion of censure.
