National Firefighters School President resigns and accuses League of "threats and blackmail"

SAPO Notícias8 September 2026 at 18:59

The president of the National Firefighters School (ENB) submitted his resignation today due to the lack of "tranquility, predictability and stability necessary" to carry out his duties. The decision was communicated through a letter sent to the president of the ENB's general assembly table, a document to which the news agency had access.

In the letter, the resigning president accused the president of the Portuguese Firefighters League of practicing "threats and blackmail," reporting an environment of pressure and instability at the institution. This is not the first time conflicts have emerged between the two entities.

The Portuguese Firefighters League is a reference organization in the firefighting sector in Portugal, while the National Firefighters School is the main institution responsible for the training of firefighters in the country. The problems between the two organizations appear to have intensified recently, leading to the unprecedented decision of the ENB president to leave the position.
