Facing the escalation of the crisis involving the Supreme Federal Court, the Attorney General of Brazil, Jorge Messias, and the Justice minister, Welton Silva, met with the president of the STF, Minister Edson Fachin, on Tuesday afternoon (8). The meeting comes after the Second Panel of the Supreme Court formed a majority to endorse the decision of Minister André Mendonça, who ordered the removal of the director-general of the Federal Police, André Rodrigues, and delegate Leandro Almada Costa, director of Police Intelligence at the PF.
Jorge Messias also met earlier with President Lula to address the crisis. According to government sources, the AGU will appeal today of Mendonça's monocratic decision. The AGU will argue that the removal violates the exclusive competence of the President of the Republic, as established in the Constitution.
The removals represent another chapter in the crisis between the Supreme Court ministers and the Federal Police's actions, which has generated tensions in the national political scenario.
