São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos) stated on Tuesday (8) that Minister André Mendonça, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), represents a "hope" for Brazil. The speech comes the day after his address at a demonstration on Avenida Paulista, where he demanded "answers" about Alexandre de Moraes' performance at the court.
During a campaign event in downtown São Paulo, Tarcísio declared that there is a "saturation" in Brazilian society regarding the STF, stating that "nobody can stand certain situations anymore." He defended the removal of Andrei, mentioning that there is a "unanimity" that the situation is not going in the right direction.
The governor praised Mendonça's profile, classifying him as a person "very discreet, very firm, but also very wise." Tarcísio also stated that he "prays to God" that Mendonça and also Minister Edson Fachin, president of the STF, have wisdom to deal with the situation.
Tarcísio emphasized that Brazil cannot lose its court nor its Supreme Court, highlighting the importance of the institution for the country.
