The motion of censure against the Government presented by Chega was rejected this Tuesday in the Portuguese Parliament. The initiative by André Ventura's party obtained 114 votes against, 62 abstentions and 60 votes in favour, with the only votes in favour coming from Chega's 60 deputies.
The parties that voted against the motion were PSD, CDS-PP, Iniciativa Liberal, PAN and Livre. PS, PCP, Bloco de Esquerda and JPP abstained, thus allowing the reproval of the motion.
The president of Chega refused, upon leaving the plenary chamber, that the rejection meant that Prime Minister Luís Montenegro's Government or the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, had been legitimised, appealing to "ethics" in his statements to journalists.
In his closing speech, André Ventura criticised the parties that abstained or voted against the motion, although, according to him, those parties agree that Luís Neves should not continue in office. Ventura stated that parties and deputies must know which side they are on, considering that Chega "chose the right side of this story".
