Rangel says "there must be a 'enough' to Chega and a 'stop' to the PS"

SIC Notícias8 September 2026 at 18:50

Foreign Minister Rangel considered it necessary to say "enough" to the Chega party and "stop" to the Socialist Party. This position arises in a context of political tension in which the government official seeks to draw a line between extremist parties and traditional parties.

Rangel also challenged André Ventura, leader of Chega, to retract the greeting he made for the victory of the German party Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the regional elections in Saxony-Anhalt. This reference to far-right parties seems to be at the center of the controversy that prompted the minister's statements.

The comparison between Chega and the German AfD appears to have been the triggering element of Rangel's criticism, who considered it unacceptable for a Portuguese party to congratulate electoral results of political forces associated with European far-right extremism. The challenge for André Ventura to retract himself fits within this logic of condemnation.

The deadline for submitting lists for Israel's legislative elections has ended: an almost-coalition, parties created in hours, and a Jew among Arabs

The deadline for submitting lists for Israel's legislative elections ended this Tuesday, in an electoral system known for its complexity and the multitude of parties that compete. This year, two new formations — and potentially a third — were created in the last few days, which could significantly complicate the counts for the two main candidates for prime minister. Also noteworthy is the existence of a Jew integrating lists of Arab parties, which reflects Israel's unique political dynamics.
