The deputy from Chega, Marta Silva, criticized the government during a parliamentary intervention, questioning when they will be freed from "toxic ministers like Mr. Luís Neves." The term referred to the Minister of Health, Luís Montenegro, who at the time of the intervention also headed the Health portfolio.
Marta Silva drew attention to the worsening of problems in the Portuguese health system. In particular, the deputy pointed to significant increases in waiting lists for both consultations and surgeries in the areas of oncology and cardiology.
The intervention by the Chega deputy also included references to delays in hospital emergency departments and failures in the response of INEM, the National Institute of Medical Emergencies. These criticisms arise in the context of a broader debate about the quality and efficiency of health services in Portugal.
