The Argentine government filed a criminal complaint against companies linked to Israeli Navitas for carrying out hydrocarbon exploration in the North Basin of the Falkland Islands. Presidential spokesperson Adrián Ravier confirmed that the complaint was filed on Monday against the companies participating in the exploration and production considered illegal in the region. Argentina considers the Falklands its own territory and disputes sovereignty with the United Kingdom.
The companies denounced are Navitas Petroleum Development & Production Ltd, Navitas Petroleum Atlantic United, Navitas Petroleum LP, IHI Associates Inc and Eco Atlantic Oil & Gas Ltd, according to a statement from the Argentine government released on Monday night.
Argentina claims that these companies allegedly hold licenses granted by the United Kingdom to carry out exploration activities, which the country considers illegal because they are carried out without Argentine authorization, since it does not recognize British sovereignty over the archipelago.
