X is investigated in Ireland for failure in age verification of minors

oglobo8 September 2026 at 18:34

The Irish media regulator opened an investigation against X, a social media platform owned by Elon Musk, due to concerns that the company may have violated norms related to users' age and parental control. The investigation was initiated by the Media Commission (Coimisiún na Meán, in Irish).

The Irish regulator is investigating whether X ineffectively implemented age verification controls, according to a statement released on Tuesday. The assessment also verifies whether the parental controls implemented by the platform are effective.

The platform allows content intended exclusively for adults and, at the same time, allows users under 16 to use the service. This combination of factors generated the concerns that led to the opening of the investigative procedure by Ireland's regulator.
