Rescued paraglider at Santa Rita beach in Torres Vedras

A 64-year-old paraglider was rescued on the afternoon of September 8 after suffering a fall in a cliff area while practicing the sport at Santa Rita beach in the municipality of Torres Vedras. The alert was received at 2:30 PM through emergency number 112.

Various rescue resources were immediately activated to the scene, including crew from the Peniche Lifeguard Station, personnel from the Peniche Local Maritime Police Command, from the "SeaWatch" Project, from the "Safe Beach" Program, from the Torres Vedras Volunteer Firefighters, from INEM, as well as an aircraft from the Portuguese Air Force.

Upon arrival at the scene, the victim was found unconscious and was promptly assisted by INEM and firefighter personnel. Due to being in a rocky area of difficult access in very serious condition, the man had to be rescued using the FAP aircraft, which transported him to the Lisbon Military Airfield (Figo Maduro). He will subsequently be transported to a hospital by the firefighters.

The Peniche Local Maritime Police Command took charge of the incident.
