Trump asks Putin to end war in Ukraine, who says he has no "hostile plans" against Europe

Jornal de Negócios8 September 2026 at 18:26

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine during a phone call between the two heads of state. This contact was the first conversation between Trump and Putin since July 4.

Putin, for his part, stated that Russia has no "hostile plans" against Europe, a declaration that comes in the context of international tensions related to the conflict in Ukraine.

The conversation between the two leaders focused on the meetings held over the weekend by White House envoys. Steve Witkoff, special envoy of the Trump administration, met in Moscow with Putin, while Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, was in Kyiv for meetings with Ukrainian authorities.

These diplomatic meetings represent the ongoing efforts of the Trump administration to mediate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, at a time when the conflict has been ongoing for more than two years.

"I grew up with two very different references, but I never felt that Portuguese identity nullified Venezuelan identity or vice-versa"

Chanttal Mendez, a young Luso-Venezuelan born and raised in Caracas until the age of 10, moved with her family to Aveiro, Portugal, motivated by her maternal grandmother's Portuguese roots. In an interview with Agência Incomparáveis, she shares memories of her happy childhood in Venezuela, the process of adapting to Portugal, and the construction of a dual identity that she never felt was contradictory. Currently studying International Relations at Universidade Lusíada do Porto, Chanttal combines the preservation of Venezuelan customs in her daily life – such as food, music, and language – with Portuguese habits, describing it as a "very beautiful mixture" between both cultures. Her journey in beauty pageants includes titles such as Miss Teen Aveiro 2023 and, more recently, Miss Aura Portugal, which she intends to use as a platform for social projects and one day to represent Portugal in an international competition.
