PCP demanded clarification on the reorganization of the Oncology Unit at Dr. José Maria Grande Hospital in Portalegre, considering that the explanations from the Local Health Unit (ULS) of Alto Alentejo are "increasingly inconsistent". The party argues that, although the administration denied any reduction in response to patients and announced the hiring of a new oncologist to strengthen the service, the consultation period ensured by the current oncologist was reduced to about half of the activity they carried out until August.
The ULS of Alto Alentejo rejected "any interpretation" that points to a decrease in response to users at the Oncology Unit, guaranteeing that the service will be strengthened. According to the board of directors, measures are being prepared for the "strengthening and development" of the unit, including the reinforcement of differentiated human resources and the improvement of infrastructural and organizational conditions.
PCP questioned the specific reasons that led to the change in the existing model, whose clinical results were "at the level of the best in the country", noting that there were no relevant complaints and that hundreds of citizens spontaneously mobilized in defense of the service. The party also denounced that the orthopedics service continues to be unable to regularly ensure the emergency roster, operating only on part of the days of the week, while the maternity ward maintains constraints that force pregnant women to be referred to other hospital units.
PS also questioned the Government about the changes at the Oncology Unit, through a question subscribed by seven socialist deputies, including Luís Moreira Testa, directed to the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins. The parliamentarians expressed concern regarding the possible impacts on installed capacity and the continuity of the currently ensured response.
