Monforte Municipal Outdoor Pool Closed Early Due to Bacteria in Water

Rádio Campanário8 September 2026 at 17:37

The Monforte City Council, in the district of Portalegre, closed the municipal pool at the county seat early after water analysis detected the presence of a bacterium. The municipality's president, Miguel Rasquinho, confirmed to the Lusitanian news agency (Lusa) that the analysis was carried out on Monday and identified coliforms, the main indicator of microbiological contamination and of failures in the treatment or disinfection of the water.

The mayor explained that this type of situation has occurred in previous years, although it is the first time this year, and lamented the early closure of the facility, which will not reopen this bathing season. The pool was supposed to close on Sunday, but the closure was brought forward by five to six days.

The municipality published a notice on social media explaining that, as part of the regular analysis carried out, one of the parameters examined showed a result that was not in compliance with the required quality and safety values. The decision to bring forward the closure was aimed at prevention and safeguarding the well-being of users, given the approaching end of the bathing season.
