A MDS Brasil concluded the acquisition of brokerages BKS Corretora de Seguros and BKS RE Corretora de Resseguros, specialized in transportation and cash-in-transit insurance. The value of the transaction was not disclosed, but MDS will now operate in a niche in which BKS estimates it holds approximately 80% of the Brazilian market. The operation was highlighted by Exame Brasil magazine.
Founded in São Paulo in 1989, BKS has as clients four of the five largest cash-in-transit companies in the country and participates in the coverage of approximately 3,000 armored vehicles and 250 custody bases spread throughout Brazil. The company also works with solutions for high-value cargo transportation, in addition to cash-in-transit. The operation also includes BKS Re, created in 2018 to handle facultative reinsurance placements.
With this acquisition, MDS reached 15 purchases in Brazil over the past seven years. Among the most recent are Abensur Enris, APR Seguros, and FFC Financial Services. The largest acquisition was D'Or Consultoria, bought for the equivalent in reais of 134 million euros, and last year the brokerage spent approximately 12 million euros on the corporate clients portfolio of Qualicorp.
The three founding partners of BKS — Leiko Akama, Márcio Akama Barbosa, and Yuji Akama Mazurek — will remain in charge of operations after the purchase by MDS.
