In March 2025, Binyamin Netanyahu's government approved a resolution to "facilitate" the transfer of Gaza's population to third countries, or their "voluntary emigration," the euphemism officially used to empty the Palestinian enclave. Israel's Defense Ministry even created a special department to manage the process, and Netanyahu tasked the Mossad with finding countries willing to host them.
Since then, little has been known about these plans, which does not mean they have been abandoned. Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed last week that the project remains in place but was temporarily "frozen" by the White House.
Netanyahu's Likud supports the measure, as do other ultra-nationalist parties, which have made it the flagship proposal of their electoral campaigns.
