The elimination of prior scrutiny by the Court of Auditors for municipal contracts below 10 million euros will allow Portuguese municipalities to accelerate their projects. The National Association of Portuguese Municipalities reacted to the measure, highlighting that mayors are "comfortable" with this threshold.
According to the association's representative, approximately 90% of contracts signed by municipalities fall below the 10 million euro threshold. This means that most municipal projects will no longer require prior approval from the Court of Auditors.
The measure represents a significant administrative simplification for municipalities, which will see their public procurement processes accelerated. Municipalities will thus be able to move forward more quickly with investments and works without the delays associated with prior scrutiny.
