Thirteen former ministers of the Supreme Federal Court sent a letter to the president of the Court, Edson Fachin, demanding the urgent convocation of a public session in the plenary to rigorously investigate the very serious facts affecting the STF. The text classifies the moment as the most acute crisis in the court's history, although it does not directly mention Ministers Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça.
The signatories of the document are retired Ministers Celso de Mello, Nelson Jobim, Ellen Grace, Cesar Peluso, Ayres Brito, Joaquim Barbosa, Rosa Weber, among others. This is an expressive group of former magistrates from the highest court in the country expressing institutional concern over the current situation.
Former STF president Luiz Roberto Barroso did not sign the letter. In a statement to CBN, Barroso said he praises the initiative to support Fachin, but does not feel comfortable subscribing to the document, as he believes he can contribute internally to resolving the crisis.
Barroso recalled that he left the court just a few months ago and maintains personal friendships with all current ministers. He revealed having been in contact with them in recent weeks to discuss possible solutions to the crisis affecting the institution.
