A former socialist mayor was sentenced to ten years in prison for crimes related to the misuse of public funds. The sentence was handed down in a Portuguese court.
The crimes are said to have occurred between 2014 and 2017, a period during which the defendant used public funds for electoral expenses and support to associations. The investigation is said to have identified these irregularities during this timeframe.
In addition to the main sentence of ten years in prison, the convicted individual will also have to serve 300 days of fines, which represents an additional sanction to the main sentence.
