Chega says the prime minister "is tied to the bottomless pit of scandals that Luís Neves represents"

Now8 September 2026 at 17:26

The Chega party considered that the prime minister is "tied to the bottomless pit of scandals represented by Luís Neves," the current Minister of Internal Administration. This position was conveyed by Rita Matias, a party official.

Rita Matias recalled that Luís Neves was appointed national director of the Polícia Judiciária in 2018 by former socialist prime minister António Costa. This appointment is now being used by Chega as an argument to link the current prime minister to decisions made by the previous government.

The deputy also mentioned Operation Influencer as one of the scandals associated with Luís Neves. This operation is related to investigations that involved political and judicial figures, and has been used by Chega to criticize the political management of the Internal Administration portfolio.

The populist right party thus continues to pressure the government through criticism of Luís Neves's appointment and his performance as the person responsible for the Internal Administration portfolio, emphasizing the link between the current governing team and the previous executive.
