A working group created in July by the Porto City Council to rethink the management model of the historic centre presented 13 recommendations to protect the zone classified as world heritage. The group, made up of specialists, suggests the elaboration of a Special Protection Plan as the main instrument for the preservation of the historic area.
The rapporteur of the working group argues that dialogue is essential to resolve the existing problems in the management of the historic centre. According to the specialist, when there is dialogue between the parties involved, solutions can be found for many of the difficulties affecting the heritage zone.
The Special Protection Plan aims to establish stricter and more specific rules for the protection and planning of Porto's historic centre, ensuring that urban development is compatible with the preservation of the heritage values that led to the city's classification as world heritage.
