Caiado praises PF chief removal by Mendonça and says Brazil needs 'firm stance' at STF

Presidential candidate Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) praised the decision by Justice André Mendonça, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), to temporarily remove the director-general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, and the intelligence director of the corporation, Leandro Almada. Caiado classified the decision as "firm and courageous" on social media, stating that he has always defended law and order going hand in hand, without space for politicization.

Mendonça's decision placed the justice at the center of one of the most recent crises involving the STF and the Federal Police. The justice determined the removal of Andrei Rodrigues and Leandro Almada after pointing out indications that the corporation's intelligence strategy presented problems. The determination also ordered that the Internal Affairs department of the Federal Police investigate Andrei Rodrigues's conduct.
