Palombar states it was targeted by insults, threats, and accusations during a protest by cattle breeders held on Sunday, September 6, in the village of Póvoa, in Miranda do Douro. The action brought together more than 50 people and aimed to contest the Government's action regarding wolf attacks on cattle in the Miranda Plateau.
According to the association, the team present at the location was surrounded by protesters, who demanded that it take responsibility for paying compensation and for delays in processes related to damages caused by wolves. Palombar clarifies, however, that these competencies belong to the State, through ICNF, and that the association has no responsibility for the allocation or management of these supports.
The environmental organization recalls that it has advocated for measures to protect livestock and faster and fairer compensation, including interventions in Parliament and positions directed to ICNF. Among the proposals presented are increased support for livestock protection dogs, the creation of emerging conflict zones, and increased support for producers in wolf presence areas.
Palombar says it is also developing species monitoring in the region and working directly with cattle breeders to identify higher-risk areas and seek coexistence solutions between livestock farming and the Iberian wolf. The association calls for dialogue and moderation, rejecting accusations it considers unfounded, namely regarding an alleged release of wolves or misappropriation of public funds.
