The Brazilian automotive market maintained its growth pace in August, with 275 thousand cars, trucks, and buses registered in the last month. The result represents a 22.1% increase compared to the same period last year, driven by automobiles and imports. Vehicle production in August reached the highest volume for a month since October 2019 and the best August since 2013, with a daily average of 13.1 thousand units registered.
Year-to-date, there were 1.9 million vehicles registered between January and August, representing an 18.4% advance compared to the same period last year. However, while the domestic market continues to expand, Brazilian vehicle exports fell 31.7% in the month, and year-to-date the decline in exports is 22.9%.
The data was released on Tuesday by the National Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea). Igor Calvet, representative of the entity, projected that growth should continue, but with a slowdown in the second half due to some contingencies. Still, he stated that annual growth should remain in the double digits.
