Paulo Raimundo tells Montenegro that "Chega will never call his policy into question"

Now8 September 2026 at 16:16

Paulo Raimundo responded to Montenegro criticizing Chega's position on his policies. According to the article, Raimundo stated that Chega will never call Montenegro's policy into question.

In his intervention, Paulo Raimundo accused Montenegro of asking for understanding from citizens while penalizing populations. The politician pointed out that only one thing is not penalized: the profit of Galp and other companies in the country's energy sector.

Paulo Raimundo also criticized Chega's proposal to lower IRC (Corporate Income Tax), suggesting that this measure favors large companies. The politician stated that Montenegro will still have to explain the impact of this policy on the country.

Paulo Raimundo's statement arises in the context of a political dispute between the parties, with the leader emphasizing the alliance between Montenegro's PSD and Chega in approving fiscal measures that, according to him, harm citizens while benefiting companies.

Chega questions: "Why was Luís Neves removed from Operation Influencer?"

Chega's leader, André Ventura, questioned in Parliament why current Minister of Internal Administration Luís Neves was removed from Operation Influencer, within the framework of the motion of censure presented by the party. Ventura addressed Minister José Luís Carneiro, questioning why the PS is silent and demanding explanations about the different treatment compared to other cases. Deputy Rita Matias reinforced the suspicions, questioning the normality of a reference criminal police body being removed from a process that led to the fall of a Government. Chega also announced it would propose a parliamentary inquiry committee into Operation Influencer to investigate acts of corruption in the last Executive of António Costa, although PSD and PS have already blocked this CPI from advancing. Operation Influencer investigates suspected crimes in the construction of a data center in Sines, in lithium exploration in Montalegre and Boticas, and in hydrogen production, having led to the fall of António Costa's Government in November 2023.
