The Matosinhos City Council opened a public tender for the elaboration of the execution project for the video surveillance system, valued at 18,490 euros, as published this Friday in the Official Gazette. The local authority of the district of Porto, led by socialist Luísa Salgueiro, explained that this project aims to carry out the necessary studies, define the locations of the cameras, measurements, budget and the documents required for the subsequent launch of the construction work.
In March, the city council stated that it will install 86 video surveillance cameras in 56 locations across the municipality in the last quarter of this year, in an investment of approximately 2.5 million euros. According to the local authority, this is a fundamental step, given the technical and operational complexity of a system of this nature, following the path already adopted by other municipalities that have implemented urban video surveillance systems.
The process for the installation of the system is currently in the final phase of the authorization procedure. The request has gone through the different stages of analysis and pronouncement by the competent entities, and is currently with the Ministry of Internal Administration for final decision.
Given the state of development of the process, the municipality considered that conditions were met to proceed, in parallel, with the technical preparation required for the future installation of the system. The municipality intends to anticipate and prepare all technical conditions so that, once the final authorization from the MAI is obtained, it will be possible to proceed more swiftly to the next stages of implementation.
