Tennis player José Rodrigues, representing the 20 Kms de Almeirim Association, won the Dr. Rui Garcia da Fonseca Trophy in Leiria, by winning the veterans +50 category. The tournament, of level B, is an official competition of the Portuguese Tennis Federation.
In the men's final, José Rodrigues defeated Paulo Carvalho, from the Racket Sports Club in Leiria, by scores of 6/0 and 6/3. To reach the decisive match, the Almeirim player had previously eliminated Benjamin Seel, from the Caldas da Rainha Tennis Club, with a double 6/0, and in the semi-finals he eliminated the top seed, Carlos Figueiredo Silva, from the Famalicão Tennis Club, 6/4 and 3/0, benefiting from the opponent's retirement due to injury.
In the women's +50 category, Isabel Dias Carvalho, also an athlete from the 20 Kms de Almeirim Association, reached the semi-finals of the competition, not advancing to the final.
