In an interview held on Tuesday, candidate for Governor of Rio Douglas Ruas (PL) tried to distance himself from suspicions surrounding the state secretary of Cities, a department he commanded for more than three years during the Castro government. The candidate was questioned about payments made by a company contracted for paving works to a quarry belonging to the family of federal deputy Altineu Côrtes (PL), his political godfather.
Ruas defended himself by stating that "it's not the manager's job to know where inputs were purchased." The PL candidate highlighted that he responds with tranquility to all acts practiced in public office, affirming he has zero complaints and legal proceedings, in addition to having fully complied with the law.
The candidate also attempted to rebut suspicions pointed out in an audit by the State Comptroller General's Office in his former department. According to him, all contractors who had any irregularities were notified and punished by himself.
