The accelerated aging of the Brazilian population is contributing to redefining national retail strategies. With more than 32 million people over 60 years old, representing approximately 15.6% of the country's inhabitants, the senior audience drives between R$ 1.8 trillion and R$ 2 trillion per year, according to the "Silver Generation" research developed by Sindilojas Porto Alegre.
This volume represents approximately 20% of national private consumption, with projections indicating that this share will reach 35% by 2044. The study also reveals that this age group corresponds to the main providers of household income.
Marcos Saad, founding partner at MEC Malls, a company specializing in the design and management of strip malls, explains that consumers over 60 still prefer physical stores, which aligns perfectly with the profile of strip malls, neighborhood shopping centers. This preference creates a direct synergy with the model of this real estate and commercial format.
