President of ADMC defends cooperation between municipalities to position Serra d'Ossa as a tourist destination

The Montes Claros Development Association (ADMC) promotes on September 19 in Lisbon the initiative "SERRA D'OSSA – A Territory to Discover | Showcase of Serra d'Ossa", which will take place at Casa do Alentejo between 2:00 PM and 6:30 PM. The showcase, integrated into the PROVERE + Serra d'Ossa project, aims to bring to the capital a sample of the identity of a territory that encompasses six Alentejo municipalities: Alandroal, Borba, Estremoz, Redondo, Sousel and Vila Viçosa. The organization expects the presence of two representatives from each municipality, as well as producers, craftsmen and cultural groups.

The president of ADMC, Ângelo Sá, defends that the valorization of autochthonous products, nature tourism, archaeology and heritage can help the region overcome the main problem it faces: the lack of population. Among the products to highlight are wines, sausages, cheeses, olive oils, conventual sweets, honey and aromatic herbs, as well as crafts such as the Bonecos de Estremoz and the artistic stonework of Borba and Vila Viçosa. The Cantadeiras de Redondo will be present to bring Cante Alentejano to the event.

The showcase will include the segment "Chatting with Serra d'Ossa", which will feature Ângelo Sá and Manuela Murteira, representative of the Regional Tourism Entity of Alentejo and Ribatejo. The event will focus on reflecting about the valorization and positioning of Serra d'Ossa as a tourist destination. Ângelo Sá emphasizes the need for greater articulation between municipalities and economic agents to build integrated tourism products that cross the different existing resources.

Among the main constraints identified is the lack of accommodation capacity, which limits the possibility of visitors staying longer in the territory. The official also mentioned the project of an eco-trail between Vila Viçosa and Estremoz, with expectations of progress during the first quarter of 2027, and defended that initiatives like this should be planned together by the six municipalities to create circuits that distribute visitors across the different municipalities.
