Pisa: more than half of students missed school for at least one day

More than half of Brazilian students (55%) reported having missed school for at least one day in 2025, according to data from the Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) report, released by the OECD on Tuesday (8). The number represents a 150% increase compared to the 2022 Pisa, when school absenteeism was 22%, a value that corresponds to the current OECD average.

According to the report, there was also an increase in the number of students who reported having missed at least one class: in 2022 the number was 19%, while in the most recent survey this percentage rose to 53%, well above the average of OECD countries, which is 24%.

The report also indicates that the percentage of students who arrive late to school decreased, unlike what occurred with absences.
