The Coimbra em Blues festival returns to the Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente on November 5th and 6th, in an edition considered "year zero" that aims to recover the artistic identity of the first editions of the event, created in 2003. The programming is in the hands of Paulo Furtado, responsible for the initial curation of the festival, who returns almost a decade later. According to TAGV director Sílvio Correia Santos, this edition marks a restart and seeks to recover a more daring artistic line, coherent with the history of Coimbra em Blues, looking at blues as the matrix of contemporary popular music and exploring its different branches.
On the first day, November 5th at 9:30 PM, the festival kicks off with Ray & Tó Trips in a concert dedicated to the work of Robert Johnson, reinterpreted through the language of the two musicians. On the same night, João Cabrita performs, a Portuguese author and producer who presents the show "Cabrita", associated with the album "#Partytime".
On the second day, November 6th, the Spanish duo Guadalupe Plata takes the stage, formed by Pedro De Dios on guitar and vocals and Carlos Jimena on drums, with a sound that crosses blues, rock 'n' roll, flamenco and psychedelic rock. This is followed by Ruby Ann, an artist from Coimbra, with a tribute to Ruth Brown, seeking to update and keep alive the repertoire of the American singer. The night ends with a closing party hosted by DJ A Boy Named Sue.
Coimbra em Blues will also have an extension in Lisbon, at Casa Capitão, with performances by Guadalupe Plata and Ray & Tó Trips, in a touring format that the organization intends to expand to other cities in the future. Daily tickets cost 15 euros (13 euros with discount) and the pass for the two days costs 25 euros. A combined pass with a book dedicated to the festival editions between 2003 and 2007 is also available for 30 euros, limited to 150 units.
