The rise in fuel prices is creating significant difficulties for farmers. The agricultural sector faces a considerable increase in production costs due to the worsening of fuel prices.
The Portuguese Government announced the return of extraordinary support for agricultural diesel, a measure that had been previously implemented to support the sector. However, farmers consider that this measure is insufficient given the exponential increase in costs.
The Portuguese agricultural sector also denounces a situation of unfair competition with Spain. Farmers warn that support for agricultural diesel in Spain is much higher than that practiced in Portugal, which places national producers at a competitive disadvantage in the Iberian market.
