Finland completes about 200 km fence on border with Russia

Finland completed on Monday (7) the construction of a fence of approximately 200 kilometers along the border with Russia. The project, initiated three years ago, is part of the country's security strategy against actions the government classifies as "hybrid warfare." The structure is 4.5 meters high and is equipped with cameras and sensors.

The fence covers areas considered strategic along the 1,340 kilometers of border between the two countries, which represents the longest land border shared by a European Union or NATO member with Russia. According to Finnish authorities, the project cost about 356 million euros.

The completion ceremony took place near the Nuijamaa border crossing in the southeast of the country, which has remained closed since 2023. Finnish Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen classified the work as important for national security.
