Cinema audiences in August almost double compared to same period of 2025

Diário de Viseu8 September 2026 at 13:15

Portuguese cinemas registered a significant increase in audience numbers in August, with attendance nearly doubling compared to the same period in 2025. This growth represents an expressive recovery of the sector after a period of lower activity.

Regarding annual box office revenues, Portuguese cinemas achieved a 21.8% increase in the total for 2026. This data reflects a positive trend in the recovery of the Portuguese film industry throughout the year.

The numbers demonstrate renewed public interest from Portuguese audiences in watching films in movie theaters, both in August and consistently throughout the entire year of 2026. This growth trend contrasts with the attendance levels recorded in previous periods.

"Exodus", developed by Archetype Entertainment (formed by BioWare veterans), was played at Gamescom. The game combines science fiction, space travel, companion relationships and a story that develops significantly based on the player's choices and actions. Although comparisons with "Mass Effect" are inevitable, the article argues that reducing the project to a mere spiritual heir to the BioWare classic is inaccurate after experiencing the game firsthand.

Brazilian actor Vítor Hugo, known in Portugal for his work on TVI such as "Terra Forte", celebrated ten years since his arrival in Portugal with a visit to Quinta do Paral in Vidigueira during the Alentejo Autêntico event. During his time in the region, which is becoming, according to him, his "second home", the actor praised the Alentejo landscape, describing it as a spectacle where "the view stretches to infinity", and discovered the musical work of Luís Trigacheiro, classifying his voice as "so powerful, so subtle, so sweet and so velvety". The event, which brings together music, wine and tourism in 12 micro-concerts throughout the region, aims to promote the Alentejo beyond wine, with musical culture taking a central role in the territorial tourism promotion.
