The England team was crowned champions of the 72nd World Freshwater Angling Nations Championship, a competition that took place between August 30 and September 6 at the Sorraia venue in Coruche. The English team secured the title with 35 points, overcoming the Czech Republic, who finished second with 43 points, and Hungary, who completed the podium with 45 points.
The Portuguese team finished the competition in a commendable 6th place among 21 participating teams, accumulating 50 points and a total of 36,670 grams of catches. This result represented a solid performance by the national team throughout the competition.
In the individual classification, the world title was won by the Spaniard José Alfonso Pardo García, followed by the Dutchman Ramon Ansing in second place and the Englishman William Raison in third. Among the Portuguese athletes, the standout was João Pechincha, who finished the World Championship in 4th place in the overall individual classification, achieving the best performance of the national team with just four points.
