The Municipal Chamber of Angra do Heroísmo hosted, on September 8, at the Town Hall, the presentation of the Atlantic Music Festival "Sounds of Macaronesia", an initiative that will take place on November 20 and 21, at the Cultural and Congress Centre of Angra do Heroísmo, in the Azores.
The festival is organized by the association FraterUne – The Brotherhood That Unites Us and its main objective is to strengthen the historical, cultural and identity ties that unite the archipelagos of the Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands and Cape Verde, through music, artistic sharing and the enhancement of island traditions.
On November 20, at 9:00 PM, the Azorean group Quarto Crescente e Amigos performs, followed at 11:00 PM by the Madeiran group Xarabanda. On November 21, at 9:00 PM, the Canarian group El Batijero takes the stage, and the festival closes at 11:00 PM with the Cape Verdean group Recado pa Terra.
The Vice-President of the Municipal Chamber of Angra do Heroísmo, Guido Teles, stated that the festival represents an opportunity to strengthen the cultural ties between archipelagos that share a common Atlantic history and identity, and that the municipality is proud to host an initiative that values cultural diversity and promotes the exchange between peoples united by the ocean.
