The number of passengers on public transport increased in the second quarter of 2024, between April and June, in practically all transport modes. The only exception was the metro, which recorded a year-on-year decline.

On the metro, 73 million passengers traveled between April and June. This value represents a 1% decrease compared to the same period the previous year.

Gasoline hits record price in the US on Labor Day holiday

The average price of gasoline in the United States reached $4.14 per gallon on the Labor Day weekend, the highest ever recorded for the holiday, nearly $1 above the same period last year. The increase is driven by the war between the United States and Iran, which significantly reduced oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz. Diesel also reached a historic record of $5.85 per gallon. The situation directly affects American families, who have reduced or canceled summer trips, and may impact prices in supermarkets and delivery services, as freight costs tend to be passed on to consumers. The American government acknowledges the problem but believes in a possible drop in the coming months, although factors such as extreme heat in Texas, possible hurricanes, and reduced Russian and Chinese refinery production keep the scenario uncertain.
