Commemorations of the 600 Years of Discovery

The Municipal Chamber of Vila do Porto began the celebrations of the 600 years of the discovery of the Island of Santa Maria and the Azores. The municipality is responsible for organizing the festivities that mark this historical event. The discovery of Santa Maria, which occurred six centuries ago, is also considered as the milestone of the discovery of the Azores archipelago. The ceremonies began in the capital of the municipality that bears the same name, a historic place linked to the first contacts with the island.
