Over 100 arrested in GNR operations in Algarve

The Republican National Guard arrested 108 people in the act in the Faro district, between August 31 and September 6, as part of prevention and inspection operations. The actions aimed at preventing and combating violent crime, road inspection and strengthening public safety. Of the arrests, 47 were for driving under the influence of alcohol, 20 for driving without a legal license and 18 for drug trafficking.

During the operations, the GNR seized 182 doses of cocaine, 88 doses of hashish, two pistols, a shotgun, a carbine and two video surveillance cameras. Also seized were 322 jerrycans of fuel, each with a capacity of 25 liters.

Within the scope of road inspection, 485 infractions were detected, including 93 for speeding, 51 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection and 47 for anomalies in lighting and signaling systems. Infractions were also recorded for lack of or incorrect use of seatbelts, improper use of mobile phones while driving and lack of civil liability insurance.

During the same period, 146 road accidents were recorded in the Faro district, resulting in one seriously injured person and 31 slightly injured. The GNR announced it will continue to develop prevention and inspection actions to reinforce road safety and public tranquility in the region.
