Parliament debates and votes today on Chega's motion

Diário de Leiria8 September 2026 at 10:56

The Portuguese Parliament debates and votes today on a motion presented by the Chega party. The motion is entitled "For the end of a Government without political authority, incapable of assuming responsibilities and guaranteeing trust in institutions".

This motion is the first one presented against the XXV Constitutional Government. The Chega party is responsible for the initiative and aims to censure the actions of the executive led by the prime minister.

The motion is guaranteed to be rejected, meaning it is certain to be voted down by the parliamentary majority. This happens because the Chega party is an opposition political force and does not have the necessary votes to pass the motion.
