As socioeconomic inequalities in Portuguese schools are not decreasing, contradicting the trend observed by the OECD. According to the results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), family background continues to have a significant weight on the academic success of students in Portugal.

The study involved more than 760 thousand students from 91 countries and economies, including almost seven thousand young people from 225 Portuguese schools. This edition of PISA analyzed the impact of socioeconomic status on the school performance of students.
