Timor-Leste Health Minister receives WHO recognition award

The Minister of Health of Timor-Leste, Élia dos Reis Amaral, received a recognition award from the World Health Organization (WHO) for the results achieved in the area of public health. The distinction was awarded specifically for the elimination of trachoma in the country.

The announcement of the award was made by the Timorese government. This recognition highlights the country's efforts in the fight against neglected tropical diseases and the improvement of public health indicators.

Trachoma is an infectious eye disease caused by bacteria that can lead to blindness if left untreated. Its elimination represents an important milestone for Timor-Leste's health system.

This WHO award recognizes the work carried out by the Timorese authorities in implementing public health programs that allowed the control and elimination of this disease in the national territory.
