Fixed internet accesses at 1 Gbps exceeded, for the first time, accesses between 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps in Portugal, according to ANACOM data for the second quarter of 2026. This change represents a significant shift in the fixed broadband connections landscape in the country.
According to the report, almost half of fixed broadband accesses in Portugal already operate at speeds of 1 Gbps or more. This growth was 66.6% in one year, which demonstrates a rapid acceleration in the adoption of high-speed connections.
The continuous expansion of fiber optic is pointed out as the main driver of this growth. Fiber infrastructure has been expanding throughout the Portuguese territory, allowing more homes and businesses to access higher speeds.
