The data from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) was released this Tuesday, revealing negative results for Portugal. The Portuguese 15-year-old students assessed last year once again worsened their performance in the three main areas evaluated.
The students in Portugal regressed in Mathematics, Reading and Sciences, which represents a significant setback in the country's educational performance. This deterioration places the results back to the beginning of the century, that is, at the levels the country was achieving in the early 2000s.
This negative trend concerns education authorities, as it indicates a progressive loss of quality in Portuguese basic education. The regression to early-century levels suggests that the advances achieved over the past two decades may be being lost.
